Frequently Asked Questions
Who should I meet with?
You can meet with any advisor for your track. ACME students should meet specifically with an ACME advisor. All other Math Majors or Minors should meet with an APEX/Minor advisor.
What can an advisor help me with?
A Math department faculty can help advise on courses you could take, how to plan your course load, whether the math major or minor is for you, course substiutions, and so much more! If you want to change your major, you need to talk to the appropriate college advising center.
How often do I need to meet with an advisor?
Math Majors (APEX and ACME tracks) are required to meet with an advisor once per academic year. You are welcome to meet more frequently as questions arise, especially to make sure you are prepared for class registration.
Who do I talk to in order to change my major or add a minor?
Meet with the college advisors. Contact a student advisor to schedule an appointment!
Can I request a subsitutation for a course in my major?
Students may request to substitute a course to use in place of a required course in their major or minor. Please contact a student advisor in the college for all substitution requests. The student advisor will evaluate your request and inform you of the next steps.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Bring your questions and anything related to registration or graduation planning. For example, you could map out your planned courses until graduation and ask for feedback or suggestions.
